Spring Sports

The New Jersey Department of Health released new COVID-19 Public Health
 Recommendations for Local Health Departments for K-12 Schools on January 12, 2022; the document is linked here. Our administration, Board of Education, and our school nurses are currently reviewing all of the detailed changes that are recommended and will send out an alert next week clarifying any changes made based on the latest guidance. Thank you for your patience as we navigate this new information. We will be following our established protocols until new ones are adopted.

Deadline Tuesday Physical Education Option 2 Exemptions for Marking Period 3

We will be offering Option 2 Physical Education Exemptions for Marking Period 3. This will allow those students who are involved in an extra curricular sport or approved activity to be exempt from Physical Education during the regular school day. The information and procedures are posted in the Physical Education Google Classroom and the Grade Level Google Classrooms. This information will be accessible to students only via Google Classroom. Applications must be submitted by Tuesday, January 18, 2022 at 3:00 PM. This includes any off-site applications as well. Late Applications will not be accepted.


 

Guidance Department

Scheduling Meetings for Current 9th & 10th Graders

Counselors will be meeting with students to select courses for the 2022-2023 school year beginning on Tuesday, January 18th.  Students should check the appointment schedules posted in the glass hallway outside of the guidance office.  Meetings are in person and are intended for students only. Parents/Guardians wishing to discuss scheduling options with counselors may request an appointment at the end of the scheduling process (early March).  Please reach out to counselors for assistance. We appreciate your patience in permitting counselors extra time to respond to your email and phone call inquiries as this is an extremely busy time in the guidance office. 

 

For your reference, information about junior conferences for scheduling and post-secondary planning was mailed home in December.  If you did not receive information about your 11th grader’s appointment, please contact Mrs. Norton (lnorton@shsd.org). 

 

The Power School scheduling portal is now closed.  Counselors will assist students with this process during scheduling appointments.  Please contact Mrs. Walker (jwalker@shsd.org) with any scheduling questions.  

 

Practice ACT Exams

This is a great chance to get started on your testing plan, or if you have already started, it will provide additional practice. Taking practice tests under timed conditions is essential to being ready for the official test. A proctored practice exam will help your child build testing endurance and give a real-time snapshot of their testing performance.

Sunday Vaccination Clinic

On Sunday January 16th, the Somerset County Health Department will be at the Bernardsville Fire House from 10a to 3p for a COVID-19 vaccination clinic. This event will have the Pfizer, Moderna, and J&J vaccines and is open to all ages 12+. Additionally, 1st, 2nd, & 3rd/booster doses of the appropriate vaccine will be administered to residents who meet criteria approved by the FDA and CDC. New     ACT BOOTCAMP
Catalyst's ACT Bootcamp for Bernards is next weekend! This momentum building weekend seminar gives students the insight and confidence they need on the day of the test. Students will also leave with Catalyst's self-study materials for sustained practice right up until the test. Tuition for each Bootcamp is just $175.
