School News

Dear BHS Families,

In conjunction with our ongoing efforts to improve school security, we recently installed a doorbell with a camera outside the main entrance to Bernards High School.  In the past, parents and visitors entered the main doors and then buzzed into the main office from the vestibule. We have been advised by police and security experts that the safest procedure is to have visitors buzz in from the outside, and then once again from the vestibule.  Parents who are dropping off items for their students will now need to ring the doorbell and wait to be buzzed in prior to leaving the items on the table. Visitors who need to enter the main office will need to ring another doorbell, at which time they will be given access to the main office.  Access to the rest of the building will be granted only after a driver's license is scanned. This new security measure will ensure that anyone who enters the vestibule, which students access on a regular basis, will already have been vetted by the main office staff. I understand that this might be a small inconvenience, but it is an important step in keeping our students and staff safe.  Please reach out to my office with any questions or concerns.

Kind Regards,
Scott A. Neigel
AP Exam Registration
Registration for 2020 AP Exams at Bernards High School will take place between October 1 and November 1, 2019. This is earlier than previous years due to changes mandated by the College Board. If your student is in AP classes you should have received a copy of an invoice in the mail.  If you did not receive an invoice, please contact Ms. Anne Acuff in guidance. Click here to make payment for AP Exams via RevTrak, SHSD's online payment center, using a VISA, MasterCard, Discover credit card or a debit card. Payments can also be made with cash or checks made payable to "Bernards High School". Payments by cash or check should be delivered to Ms. Anne Acuff in the BHS Guidance Department.

Marking Period Two Option Two Physical Education Exemption
Students who wish to apply for a Marking Period 2 Option 2 Physical Education Exemption must visit the Physical Education Google Classroom via their SHSD Google account and complete the application. The Physical Education Class Code is 1t7jtic and this form must be submitted by 3:00 PM on November 1, 2019.  No applications will be accepted after the deadline.  Students who wish to apply for an off-site Option 2 Physical Education Exemption must obtain an additional packet from the physical education department. Students should see Mr. Caswell or one of the physical education teachers with any questions.

End of Marking Period Testing Days
In an effort to reduce the number of tests a student might have on any given day at the end of the marking period, we are instituting a schedule that restricts when different departments may administer tests or quizzes. We are not instituting quarterly exams and teachers are not required to administer tests or quizzes at this time, but rather we are hoping to balance student workloads at a typically busy time of year.  Click here for the testing schedule for the last ten days of the first marking period.

The URL (web address) for students/parents/guardians to access PowerSchool has changed.  We are working with PowerSchool to make the old URL redirect to the new one automatically.  In order to access PowerSchool, students and parents/guardians should use the new URL:  Please contact Ms. Nickell at if you have any difficulty accessing PowerSchool.
